Robert Kearbey’s multifaceted experience representing lenders, borrowers, underwriters, bond issuers, developers, and others in commercial real estate provides a valuable perspective on multifamily housing finance in the firm’s Affordable Housing Finance practice. At Robinson+Cole, he creates ideal platforms for growth in the affordable housing market and services clients in developing and executing sophisticated, multidisciplinary financing transactions.
Prior to joining Robinson+Cole, Robert managed a boutique affordable housing lending practice where he led a team of real estate attorneys handling constituent lenders in the origination, purchase, securitization, and servicing of bonds and loans to finance affordable housing projects. Previously, Rob served as in-house counsel for Freddie Mac’s Targeted Affordable Housing team and the Structured Specialty Products Platform. He was instrumental in helping design and implement the flagship Tax-Exempt Loan (TEL) in addition to various other products and developments.
Throughout his career, Rob has served as GSE counsel, bond counsel, underwriter’s counsel, trustee’s counsel, lender’s counsel, and borrower’s counsel in new origination and refinancing of tax-exempt and taxable transactions for affordable housing, public infrastructure, TIF, retirement community, hospital and education projects, in addition to tax-exempt bond securitizations.
